Divemaster course

What is Divemaster?

Take the first step in your dive career and become a Divemaster. Working closely with a Instructor, you'll expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills as you become a dive professional. Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities by training you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers.

Prerequisite?

  • Certified as a Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver

  • 18 years old
  • Logged 40 scuba dives
  • Completed Primary and Secondary Care training within 24 months
  • Medically evaluated and cleared for diving by a physician within 12 months

What can I do?

  • Work at local dive centers, on live-aboard dive boats, yachts and at exotic resort locations 

  • Assist Instructors with students
  • Lead Scuba Divers on guided dive tours
  • Teach and certify Skin Divers
  • Teach Discover Snorkeling programs
  • Conduct Re-Activate programs for certified divers
  • Lead certified divers on Discover Local Diving experiences
  • Teach Emergency First Response programs after successful completion of an Emergency First Response Instructor course.

How long does it take?
8 days minimum. 7 Days with Elearning or can done on week end basis.

What will I need?
The following materials are required unless they are unavailable in a language understood by the student diver.

  • Divemaster Crew pack

  • Recreational Dive Planner (RDP) – Table and eRDPML including associated Instructions for Use booklets)
  • The Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving 
  • Instructor Manual
  • Divemaster Manual
  • Re-Activate Manual
  • Divemaster Slates 
  • Watch Divemaster Video
  • Divemaster application ( not included in the course fee )
Instructor Guides for the programs that may be conducted by Divemasters.

  1. Discover Scuba Diving 

  2. Discover Snorkeling / Skin Diver Course 
  3. Re-Activate / Discover Local Diving 

* The Divemaster video must also be viewed

Where can I go from here?
Continue to Assistant instructor course or attend  Instructor development course.

 
Divemaster Course in a nutshell:

  • Complete knowledge development segments including Knowledge Reviews in the Divemaster Manual or through Divemaster Online, and pass the Divemaster Final Exam.

  • Create an Emergency Assistance Plan for a designated dive site.
  • Complete waterskills exercises.
  • Complete a diver rescue assessment.
  • Complete the dive skills workshop and assessment.
  • Complete practical application skills.
  • Complete divemaster-conducted programs workshops.
  • Complete practical assessments.
  • Meet the professionalism criteria.

At time of certification, verify the candidate has:

  • Logged at least 60 scuba dives including experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation.

  • Completed Primary and Secondary Care training within 24 months.
  • Read and agreed to the Membership and License Agreements.

Cost : Php 55,000 1 person

  3. Dive pass required for boat dive at Php 200 per person per day

Itinerary:

1. First Day
Preparation: Candidates read the Divemaster Manual Chapter 1 online.
                        Candidates print out eRecord after completing Divemaster Online.

Classroom: Course Orientation and The Role and Characteristics of a
                         Divemaster. Review Knowledge Review for Topic 1.

Confi ned Water:

  • Waterskills Exercises 1 and 2

  • Skill demonstration practice (one skill to score 5; review 24 skills)
  • Workshop 1 – Scuba Review in Confi ned Water

Assignments: Emergency Assistance Plan and Mapping Project locations

2. Second Day
Confi ned Water:

  • Waterskills Exercises 3 and 4

  • Diver Rescue
  • Workshop 2 – Skin Diver Course and Snorkeling Supervision

Open Water:

  • Skill 1 – Dive Site Set Up and Management

  • Skill 4 – Search and Recovery Scenario

3. Third Day
Confi ned Water:

  • Waterskills Exercise 5

  • Workshop 3 – Discover Scuba Diving in Confi ned Water

Open Water:

  • Workshop 4 – Discover Scuba Diving - Additional Open Water Dive

4. Fourth Day
Confi ned Water:

  • Dive Skills Workshop - evaluate 24 skills

Open Water:

  • Skill 3 – Dive Briefi ng

  • Workshop 5 – Discover Local Diving in Open Water

5. Fifth Day
Classroom: Divemaster Final Exam

Open Water:

  • Skill 5 – Deep Dive Scenario

  • Practical Assessment 3 – Continuing Education Student Divers in Open Water

6. Sixth Day
Confi ned Water: Practical Assessment 1 – Open Water Diver Students in Confi ned Water

7. Seventh Day
Open Water: Practical Assessment 2 – Open Water Diver Students in Open Water

8. Eighth Day
Open Water: Practical Assessment 4 – Certifi ed Divers in Open Water
